I am active in the disability community because I have CP--and experienced therse issues personally since I entered the workforce 12 years before ADA became law. I knew how to think outside the box and create opportunities for myself. I needed a program like I'm setting up to help me when I started my business 25 years ago.
What I propose to do is have people available to help clients with putting together a business plan, financial plan, plus help with where to market and decide what niche they want to fill. There are no grants available if you're a for profit business, plus AAPD only gives out 5 grants a year with more than 300 applicants. I want to set the program with a low interest loan program to be opaid back plus have the individual also mentor someone else just starting out after they build their business. The College of NJ had a networking event on October 2,2008 called Abilities Matter: Entreprepreneurs With Disabilities--so there is a recognition that programs like the one I'm setting up is needed.
I'm looking for sponsorship because I need to replace the funds I used to get the name registered and start the 501(c)3 process because those were funds given to me to be used for rent only from the DOT because I was displaced from where I was living. I'm looking for board members who can help with grant writing and securing grants.
